Public Service Solutions
Custom Public Service solutions offered by Feeney Wireless help:
- Maintain continuous connections to applications and data while roaming across wireless LANs, WANs, and hot spots
- Protect confidential data with comprehensive security
- Provide fastest access to data through Best-Bandwidth Routing™ technology
- Reduce the cost and complexity of mobile computing
Seamless roaming
When police officers, firefighters, and mobile medical units
travel through neighborhoods and communities—crossing
between networks or through areas where building infrastructure
blocks wireless coverage—connections and applications
fail, information is lost, and devices crash. The patent-
pending technology in NetMotion Mobility enables roaming between
hot spots and through coverage gaps without loss of applications,
information, or device functionality. Your users do not need
to reboot or log on again when they move across physical or
electronic boundaries. They get on-the-fly access to the information
they need to do their jobs safely and efficiently.
Advanced security
Access to confidential data from national crime information
databases requires advanced security. NetMotion Mobility enhances
security by providing administrator-configurable security
levels with government-strength, standards-based authentication,
including support for RADIUS, Active Directory, Kerberos,
Cisco LEAP, and Nortel Convitity VPN, as well as VPN-level
encryption with AES, Twofish, 3DES, or DES.
Best-Bandwidth Routing™ technology
Immediate access to data allows police officers and other
emergency response personnel to protect and serve their communities
more efficiently and effectively. NetMotion Mobility provides
the option to switch automatically to the fastest bandwidth
network connection, when multiple connections are active.
This component of our patent-pending InterNetwork Roaming™
technology is especially useful in public service markets
where a priority is placed on maintaining high-speed access
to information while traveling between networks and coverage
areas.
Reduced complexity and cost
Ongoing maintenance and administration of a wireless LAN can
create a significant cost and support burden. As a software-only
approach, NetMotion Mobility reduces IT costs by solving common
mobile computing problems before they occur. With persistent
connections, advanced authentication and encryption, and seamless
local- to wide-area roaming issues resolved, law enforcement
officers and other emergency response teams can focus on their
primary responsibilityŠprotecting and serving the citizens
of their community.
Wireless use is on the rise
A 1999 LEMAS (Law Enforcement Management and Administrative
Statistics) survey of over 13,000 general-purpose local police
departments in the United States included some interesting
statistics on computer use:
- From 1990 to 1999, the percentage of local police officers
using field computers or terminals increased from 31% to
73%.
- More than half of local police officers worked in a department
where at least some officers in the field could use in-field
computers to retrieve information on suspects or driving
records.
- Just under half of the officers were in departments where
calls for service or criminal history records could be accessed.

Justice Statistics.)
